inquiry topic:

the role of AI in personalized learning: can adaptive algorithms replace traditional instructors?

the question:

my focus specifically, is the human element of teaching. while AI can optimize and deliver educational content, what elements of human instruction are irreplaceable; what elements are lost?

why this topic?

throughout my time in post-secondary, i’ve had my fair share of run ins with AI models; they’re an incredible tool. for me, they’ve helped me learn, and understand content better for my classes. the ability to create a plethora of practice questions, practice quizzes, or even practice exams in a matter of minutes is insane! yet, there are some things they cant do. it only gets to know what you tell it, it only reacts how you want it. it doesn’t have real empathy, it can’t understand your body language or mood without you telling it.

for this project, i’d like to explore this and focus on the parts of the human teaching experience that an ai can’t replicate.

over the next coming weeks i’ll do my best to document my findings, and share my reflections on said findings through this blog; additionally, i’ll be tracking resources, articles, and progress.
